One of the most well-known stories about Durdhara revolves around the birth of her son, Bindusara . who would later succeed Chandragupta as the emperor of the Maurya Empire . According to legend, during her pregnancy, Durdhara was unaware of a scheme plotted by her husband's enemies. The adversaries had concocted a plan to poison her in order to prevent her from giving birth to an heir to the Maurya throne . However, when Chanakya, Chandragupta's mentor and advisor, learned of the plot, he devised a strategy to protect Durdhara and her unborn child . Chanakya advised Durdhara to consume a small portion of food every day, which contained minimal poison, subsequently making her immune to the poison over time . It is said that Durdhara followed Chanakya's plan, and her son Bindusara was born healthy and without any harm from the poison .
